Cruising Out of Charm City: What’s New in Baltimore’s Cruise Scene

Baltimore’s cruise industry has weathered a turbulent year. After a cargo ship disaster brought down the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March 2024, operations at the Port of Baltimore came to a sudden halt. Cruise lines, including Carnival and Royal Caribbean, had to suspend sailings, redirect ships, and deal with financial setbacks.

But the port bounced back. By late May 2024, Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas returned to service, marking a key milestone in the city's recovery. Carnival, Baltimore’s mainstay cruise partner, doubled down in November with a new five-year agreement to keep ships sailing from the port through at least 2029.

Still, it’s not all smooth sailing. Royal Caribbean announced it will move Vision of the Seas to Florida in 2026, leaving Baltimore with fewer options.

Even so, 3 day cruise from baltimore remains one of the East Coast’s busiest cruise ports, with hundreds of thousands of passengers embarking each year. Whether heading to the Bahamas or Canada, travelers continue to choose Baltimore for its convenience, affordability, and charm.
